ABOUT
MATTEO DE CAMINADA (he) born 2001 in Italy, is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and activist.
His work takes a clear artistic and political position, challenging entrenched social conventions and normative structures, and pushing toward more progressive and equitable futures. Deeply embedded in communities across Europe, De Caminada holds a distinctive place as both insider and cultural translator, moving between lived experience and public platform.
As an activist and speaker, he moves between subcultural communities and public platforms, translating lived experience into artistic and political discourse.
Trained in Architecture and Fine Arts, his practice has been shaped by a life lived across various European contexts, from Bolzano to London, Leipzig, and Vienna, where he lives and works today.

STATEMENT
I am not interested in making comfortable work.
I never was.
I am interested in what we live through but are ashamed to name. excess, decay, loss, the surroundings that press against us until they become unbearable. The things that happen inside a body before language arrives for them.
My experiences are specific. My problems are my own. But the feelings they produce are not, they belong to everyone who has ever been shaped by something they did not choose.
I examine how ideological structures and social norms are internalized, and what that internalization costs us. Every day. The political is never abstract. It does not live in institutions alone, it lives in the body, in relationships, in the architecture of the spaces we move through and the silences we are trained to keep.
We inhabit a world defined by compounding injustices. It will probably always be like this. That is not resignation. it is the condition my practice works from. Because the artist carries both a duty and a distinctive capacity: to carry critical discourse beyond the boundaries of the art world, into the places where it is needed and rarely arrives.
My art exists to produce discourse. Where there is no discourse, there is no art, only ornament. I refuse ornament. I am here to speak, to create discourse. That is the aim of my life.
